Living Your Passion

Hello! My name is Brenda. Here is a little history about my life as a creative person and Canadian artist.

I have always been creative and driven to experience and learn new things. In grade 7 I started sewing. When my mom gave me the opportunity, I decorated my bedroom in my early teens. In my later teens, I taught myself to play the guitar. Around that time, I also developed an interest in cake decorating. I started sketching and painting oils on canvas in high school. I also loved Drafting class. I was never great in school except for Art and Drafting. After high school, I studied Interior Design at (what is now) Mount Royal University. I took a course in stained glass and made glass work for 14 years. After that, I developed a keen interest in Decorative painting/ Faux Finishing and worked with many designers, applying specialty finishes on walls, mostly working in residential spaces. And here I am today, coming full circle back to the fine art world. It’s been a wonderful, (but sometimes difficult) artist life.

Along the way, some of my other interests have been Belly dancing and swing dancing. Honestly, I started Belly dance ONLY because I wanted to wear the sparkly costumes. I took voice lessons for 3 years.

What can I tell you after all this? I wish for you to be your true self. Find your passion and I hope to God that you have a chance to follow it. Whether you are an artist, in sales, in health care, gay, straight, colored, caucasian. Be who you are meant to be. Because whoever you are, you are important and your voice and presence matter.
