For the Love of Stained Glass
When I was 6 years old, my family took a road trip to Windsor, Ontario to visit my aunt, uncle and cousins. I clearly remember, while getting a tour of their home, entering a room downstairs full of colored wonderment. This room from my recollection, had about 7- 10 various stained glass hanging lamps suspended from the ceiling, along with quite a few table lamps. I was captivated by the colors, designs and sparkle of the glass lamps. I was told that some of these lamps were original Tiffany’s. I did not know at the time what that meant, but in my recollection, I learned fairly early in my life about this master stained glass artist.
The lamp in the photo below, (on the white table), is an original Tiffany that my cousin Dale owns and has in his Vancouver home. The others are my works.
Louis Comfort Tiffany was an American artist and designer who worked in the decorative arts and is best known for is work in stained glass. He was born in New York February 18, 1848. He has his works in Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, University of Michigan Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, The Newark Museum of Art, Musee d ‘Orsay, National Academy Museum and School, to name a few locations.
